Like most Yoruba (Fela Kuti's tribe) from the western part of Nigeria, Fela Kuti has got several names. He was born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti. Then as you grow older you adjust to the one that suit you best. He was comfortable with Fela, which is the first name minus the prefix, "Olu". All Yoruba names comes with a prefix. But he was not comfortable with his last name "Ransome". Not African, so he dropped it for "Anikulapo". So He became Fela Anikulapo Kuti instead of....cont.
